​Our Learning Story

South Rutland Elementary School currently enrolls 220 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  We have a diverse population of students and serve the Rutland area.  At South Rutland Elementary School, we are dedicated to the ideal that all children can learn. We offer a safe and healthy learning environment where we: 

  • Engage our learners & inspire excellence
  • Support intellectual, social, emotional & physical development
  • Develop creativity
  • Nurture self-esteem and resiliency
  • Promote responsible citizenship. 

We offer many programs to support the needs of our learning community including:

  • StrongStart Centre
  • Brown Bag Lunch Program
  • Breakfast program which serves 10 - 20 students each morning
  • BC Fruit and Vegetable program for all of our students
  • BC Milk program for our K - 5 students
  • Boys and Girls Club after school care
  • Morning reading intervention
  • After school math program
  • Stem explore opportunities in partnership with UBC Okanagan
  • A brand new early learning partnership with the onsite  Head Start Indigineous Pre-school
We believe that our current focus on positive behaviour, quality assessment & effective instruction in all classrooms will lead to improved student performance. Students who are part of a positive, safe & caring learning environment are assured of greater success in school. Furthermore, when structures/ strategies to engage and support students are in place, student learning in all curricular areas is enhanced. Being able to think critically is an essential core competency in BC’s redesigned curriculum.
