Engaging Minds... Launching Dreams
P.O.W.E.R. Squad
Student leaders, our P.O.W.E.R. Squad (from all Grade 2 - 5 classes), meet with Mrs. Mutter, principal, on a regular basis.

In 2011-2012, the leadership team began our work together.  We talked about the qualities of an "SRE Rocket".  We developed a presentation for students and created a “Rocket POWER” list that we introduced along with our new school mascot, Rocky.  Thanks to the efforts of Kelowna Kostume (one of our SRE families), we even have a costume for our mascot!  The leadership team said the South Rutland students show Rocket POWER with:Power Squad.png
  • PRIDE– we are proud to be known as “the home of the Rockets”…
  • OWNERSHIP– we have the right to learn and we take this responsibility seriously...
  • WORK ETHIC– we work hard and do our best at work and play times...
  • ENTHUSIASM- we’re a provincially recognized “Spirit School”...
  • RESPECT– we take care of ourselves, each other & this place (our environment).
Between 2012-2015, we have worked on a variety of projects including: organizing assemblies, reviewing our school's Code of Conduct, updating our school's Behaviour Matrix (check out the posters around our school) and brainstorming ideas/developing SMARTBoard lessons for several topics.  We established the S.T.A.R. acronym to organize behaviour expectations:
*  S- Stay safe, *  T- Take responsibility for yourself, *  A- Act respectfully, *  R- Ready to learn.
Further development of our school's learning culture will continue to be a goal.  We organized Spirit assemblies throughout the 2015-2016 school year to showcase all SRE learners and we worked on revisions to the school's Grade 5 Awards.  Together we developed a process for recognizing each students' strengths--as Thinkers, Learners, Collaborators, Contributors and Innovators.  We are proud of our work in this area and proud of our students' efforts!
